Eat to heal
Day by day, we are all getting older! When we get older, injuries tend to happen more often. Why is that? Unfortunately as we age, our bodies are not able to do everything that they use to do and handle all of the stresses and pressures that we put on them in the same way they did when we were younger. When you do have minor injuries, there are things you can eat that will help heal your body. If you stock your refrigerator with these items, you will get back on your feet faster. If you have a stress fracture, eat a spinach salad with raw almonds and a glass of vitamin D fortified milk. The combination of calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K will speed up the bone formation to help repair them. If you have muscle soreness, eat peanut butter on a whole-wheat bagel. The carbs restore energy for faster muscle recovery, and the protein in the peanut butter helps repair the damaged muscle fibers. If you have a sprained ankle, eat a raspberry, strawberry and orange juice smoothie. The vitamin C encourages collagen formation and that is crucial for rebuilding injured ligaments. If you have tendinitis, eat a walnut-crusted salmon. The polyunsaturated fats which are the omega-3 fatty acids found in the fish and the nuts will help reduce the inflammation. It is hard to get everything you need to heal yourself from food, but taking a daily multivitamin will help. Your multivitamin should be a low dose vitamin that you take throughout the day (2 or 3) instead of one because your body cannot process everything that you need at one time. Have you ever noticed after taking a vitamin that your pee is yellow? Chances are that is your vitamin that didn't get absorbed in your body. If you take a multivitamin with a lower dosage, your body will more likely be able to process more of what your body needs and use your daily multivitamin instead of disposing your hard earned money right down the toilet. Remember to drink your water! At least 8 to 10 glasses a day will keep you healthy. Exercise daily and keep your muscles strong. Even a little bit every day will help. My favorite exercise (not to do, but for results) is push ups. You are what you eat! Put good nutrition in your body and your body will continue to serve you well! To your good health!
